An Uncertain Dream

I just finished reading An Uncertain Dream by Judith Miller which is the third book in the Postcards from Pullmen series. I really enjoyed the first two books but I hate to say it I didn't enjoy the third as much. I found all the talk about the strike a little boring but once things sifted back to the actual characters I started enjoying the book again. Also, I feel like the ending was a little abrupt. I would have liked an epilogue. I will say that if you have read the first two and enjoyed them then I would read the third one cause it was nice to see what happened to everyone. So I'm giving An Uncertain Dream three out of five stars.

Cat Burglar

This morning what I thought was Trixie being her usually bossy self was actually a cat burglar in our house. I'm not sure what he was after though so maybe I shouldn't call him a burglar but he was a cat! I'm not sure when but sometime this morning (or maybe last night) Milo got into the cat fence (which keeps cats in the fence but we've learn doesn't keep cats from coming inside the fence) and after coming inside the cat area discovered the cat's door and decided to come inside the house. As you can imagine the other cats were not too happy to have an uninvited guest in their house. So I'm sure all the racket I heard this morning was in fact someone letting Milo know he wasn't welcome. My husband found Milo in the kitchen (figures, Milo loves to eat) and ended up taking him to the vet's to get fixed. So tomorrow when I go to walk the dogs at the clinic I will bring Milo home. We thought it best that he spend the night at the clinic since he is an outside cat although he may have other ideas........

Bookaholic

Yesterday as I was driving home I had a thought that was a certain sign that I am a bookaholic but, of course, I don't remember what that thought was now. I had planned on sharing that thought with you all but now I can't. Oh well, perhaps it will come back to me. A-ha! It just came back to me. Okay, as I was driving home last night I was trying to remember when this book I want comes out in paperback. I'm a cheap bookaholic and have to wait for the paperbacks. I couldn't remember if the book came out in July or August but I knew I had wrote it down on my calender at work so I wouldn't forget. And that is when I thought that I must be a bookaholic cause who else writes down on their calender when books are coming out?? If that isn't enough proof that I am a bookaholic today I was at Sam's and decided to take a look at the books. I see that have Courting Trouble for 8.47!! Hello! It's usually 13.99. So even though my TBR pile is HUGE I bought it. Yep, I'm a bookaholic....and loving it. :)

Spring Reading Thing 2008: My Results

I can't believe that Spring is over and Summer has began. So that means the Spring Reading Thing has ended. :( This was my first time participating in something like this so I had chose six books but quickly added a few along the way. You can see my original post here. Now to my results (I'll be using the questions suggested by Katrina):

Did you finish all the books you had planned to read? If not, why?
I finished ten books, four books I started but couldn't get into so moved on, and two books are still on my TBR pile. The two books I never read I just wasn't in the mood to read them and always picked up something else.

Do you think the challenge helped you read more? Or maybe helped you read books you otherwise wouldn't have read?
The challenge definitely helped me read more because I really wanted to read all the books on my list. I don't think it really helped me to read books I wouldn't have read normally.

What was your favorite book you read this spring? Least favorite?
That is a tough question but I think one of my favorites that I read was The Tale of Holly How by Susan Witting Albert, it's a really charming cozy mystery and I'm really enjoying this series. My least favorite was The Duchess and the Dragon by Jamie Carie. I know a lot of people have read her books and love them but this was the first and only book I will be reading by her. I really didn't enjoy this book at all.

Did you discover any new authors or genres that you now love?
Yes, I did. I discovered a new series I am really enjoying. The first book in the series is Eden Hall..can't remember the author..sorry. I had never read anything by this author and I really enjoyed Eden Hall and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the series.

What did you learn about your reading habits or interests?
That depending in my mood on may want to read a cozy mystery or a historical romance or chick lit or whatever...it all depends on my mood. Which is why I didn't start reading Boo Who or Sisterchicks in Sombreros...just wasn't in the mood.

Are you interested in another "Fall into Reading" challenge this fall?
Absolutely! :)

Tag! I'm It!

This is the first time I've ever been tagged..how neat. :) My Friend Amy tagged me and I have to list ten weird random facts about myself. This shouldn't take long since there is all sorts of weird stuff about me....

1) I enjoy cooking but I HATE to touch raw meat. *shudders* I have come up with all kinds of ways to avoid touching raw meat. Sometimes though you have no choice, like when your making meatballs or something like that, so that is the time for some rubber gloves.

2) I have ten cats. Well, actually if you count the stray that comes around and the stray that adopted us I have 12. I don't see why people think this is weird but they do. They all have their own little personalities. To name a few you have Trixie the Bully--she's all "meow" and no bit though but she's got a few of the cats fooled. Then there's Sweet Bonnie who is just a doll and her brother Clyde who only likes to be petted when he is in the mood. Then you have Leo the Lion who even though he's pretty small still lets everyone know he's top cat. :) There's Crazy Jake who will be sitting on your lap quite content and then without warning he will jump up and ran off. And you have Felix who is just a big old love bug.

3) I'm an introvert which again I don't think is all that weird but I've noticed extroverts think otherwise. I hate it when people I just meet ask me, "Why are you so quiet?" That doesn't help me, it only makes me climb deeper into my shell. But I think the rudest thing anyone has ever said to me was this guy I use to work with. He had just started working so of course until you get to know me I'm pretty quiet. One day he asks me if I'm a mute. Very rude if you ask me.

4) I ate blackberry cobbler for the first time last Saturday and I had no idea that blackberries are full of seeds! I didn't know that if you eat a blackberry you pretty much have to eat the seeds. Now I know why I don't eat blackberries. Yuck.

5) I love the smell of a new book and I love the smell of crayons. Weird, I know.

6) I don't like to drive on the interstate. I will go a route that is longer just to avoid getting on the interstate.

7) I'm horrible at calling people. I'm not sure why but I'll think, "I need to call *whoever* and see how they are doing" and that is about as far as I get with it. Sad, I know.

8) I probably have 100+ books that I've never read but I still buy books. Actually I wish I could read faster so than maybe I could read more books. :)

9) I talk to my dogs and cats. Well, I talk to animals because I also talk to the raccoons that come around my house at night. Don't worry they never talk back. ;) Although my cat, Carmel, will talk back when I talk to him but I have no idea what he is telling me. It's funny though cause I'll say something to him and he'll go, "Meow." Well, I think it's funny. :D

10) I'm stealing this one from Amy but I have to agree with her...I prefer ice in my drinks too. I actually think a canned soda tastes better with ice.

So there you have it my little list. :)

2) A Wrinkle in Time

3) Watership Down by Richard Adams

Mr. Monk In Outer Space

I love the TV series so when I discovered that they also had books well I was one happy camper. :) I just finished reading Mr. Monk in Outer Space and as usual I wasn't disappointed. Mr. Monk gets called in by the police to help solve the murder of the man who created Beyond Earth (think Star Trek) at a Beyond Earth Convention. But he'll need a little help from his brother on this case. I don't really want to give too much away so I'll just say I give Mr. Monk in Outer Space four out of five stars. Looking forward to the next book coming out in July...only I'll be waiting until it comes out in paperback.

9 Things That Make Me Smile

I found this little meme at Callapidder Days who found it at All That Naz. :) So I decided to make a list of 9 things that make me smile. So here's my list in no particular order:

1) My husband. He is really goofy (but as a friend of mine pointed out so am I) and can make me laugh even when I'm mad at him which drives me nuts!

2) Kittens and Cats. I can sit for hours and just watch kittens/cats play...they are so darn cute.

3) Gracie my German Shepherd. She's a character and is always getting into something.

4) My family. :)

5) God. When I think about how much He loves me and how much he has blessed me I always smile.

6) Books. There is nothing like curling up a couple of cats and a good book.

7) Monk. I absolutely love that show and can't wait until the new season starts back up.

8) Going on Vacation.

9) Pugs. I think they are soooo cute and hope one day to get one.

Books and Cats

I guess I will start off with the gross thing that I found yesterday. I saw Angel (she's a dog) in the bedroom with a bird's wing...just the wing. So I talked my hubby into cleaning that up for me. We thought perhaps she had brought it in from outside. So I didn't think much about it until I saw her with her head under this chair. I turned on the light and took a look and I'll spare you the gory details but let's just say I found what was left of a bird. I don't know what has gotten into my cats this spring. They have brought in more things this spring than last. I've seen frogs, snakes, a mouse, and now a dead bird. What on earth is next??

I have gotten so many books in the last couple of days it's really crazy. I mean I already have a HUGE pile of books that I need to read. I think I have a problem....I think I might be a bookaholic. But I've been waiting for the next book in the Monk series to come out in paperback and it finally did Tuesday. And then the last book in the Pullman series just came out so I had to get it so I can see what happens with everyone. So maybe I could have waited a bit to get the next book in the Bargain Hunters series but since I was ordering the Pullman book from amazon if I ordered $25 worth of stuff I got free shipping and who can pass that up? So I also had to get Catch A Rising Star so my total would be $25. That makes sense, right??

Getting Old

I think that in the above picture Bonnie looks a little guilty and I think I have figured out why. I caught her yesterday morning in the living room with a live snake. Yep, again with the snakes. Ick. So I got my husband to get the little vermin out of the living room. I think it was Saturday that I saw Bonnie outside after something so I'm thinking she may be one of the ones bringing in the snakes. Since I know why she doesn't it I can't get too upset with her but I really wish she didn't. Of course, she's such a cutie it is awfully hard to get upset with her. I guess I will just have to look on the bright side...at least the snakes are just little grass snakes. I don't like it but I guess I don't have a choice but to deal with it. The things we cat lovers endure for our cats.
