The Cat, the Professor, and the Poison by Leann Sweeney

From Goodreads.com

Between her kitty quilt-making business and her three beloved cats, Jill has her hands full. That doesn't stop her from wanting to solve the mystery of the milk cow that's gone missing from her friend's farm. But imagine her surprise when a stolen cow leads to the discovery of fifty stray cats and one dead body-a victim of cold-blooded murder...

My Thoughts:

This is the second book in the Cats in Trouble series and since I'm a cat lover I love this series. :) This is certainly a series for cat lovers, we follow Jillian has she stumbles upon mysteries (aka dead bodies) when all she is usually doing is trying to help a cat in need. In this book she is trying to help a cat when she stumbles upon a bunch of cats in need. When she goes back to help the cats, with the authorities, they end up finding a dead body. Thus the mystery begins. Don't want to give anything away so that's all I'm going to tell y'all. ;) So if you enjoy cozy mysteries and love cats then I highly recommend this series.

Finally A Bride by Vickie McDonough

From Goodreads.com

Keep your eyes wide open for romance in Lookout, Texas. Noah Jeffers, aka Butch Laird, returns to town determined to make up for past misdeeds. Will reporter Jacqueline Hamilton uncover his secret before Noah can capture her heart? With nowhere else to go, ex-con Carly Payton returns to the Lookout boardinghouse. Garrett Corbett is looking for an upstanding wife, not some jailbird. What will he do when overpowered by Carly’s appeal? Twice-widowed Christine Taylor isn’t looking to get re-hitched. Will love-stricken Rand Kessler find a way to woo her into wedlock? Does love deserve a first, second, or third chance?

My Thoughts:

I was so happy to learn that the third book in the Texas Boardinghouse Brides series was about Jack and Butch. I was also happy to see Carly back. And I'm happy to say that I wasn't disappointed with Finally A Bride. Even though Jack was older she was still her "wild" self and getting into trouble. Butch, who now goes by his given name Noah, is a changed man and back in Lookout. Noah isn't the only one back in Lookout...Carly is back and hoping the town will accept her after being in jail. I really enjoyed Jack and Noah's story. Jack doesn't realize that Noah is actually Butch and when she does how will she react? This was an enjoyable read and I would certainly recommend this book. I will say that if you haven't read the other two books in this series you would probably want to read them first.

Bound by Guilt by C.J. Darlington

TitleTrakk.com Blog Tours Presents:

Bound by Guilt
by C.J. Darlington
Published by Tyndale House

Shuttled between foster homes, Roxi Gold will do anything to fit in. Soon she’s traveling the country stealing rare books from unsuspecting bookstores. Police officer Abby Dawson has seen the worst of society—and not just at work. One fateful night, both their lives are changed forever. One searches for justice, the other finds herself on the run. Will the power of forgiveness set them free?

My Thoughts:

I recently saw where C.J. Darlington described her books as Lifetime Channel meets the Hallmark Channel. I think that is the perfect way to describe her books which is why it surprised me that I enjoy them so much. I don't care for the Lifetime Channel at all. Bound By Guilt grabs you in from the first paragraph and doesn't let you go until the end. I had started reading it while I was waiting for my mom to come pick me up to go out to eat. I was actually a little disappointed when she arrived so quickly because I wanted to keep reading. I can't say that I identified with Roxi but my heart went out to her and I really loved this character. She will pull at your heart strings and I found myself getting teared up a few times. All the other characters are great and you know the author has done her job when you find yourself thinking about the characters and trying to figure out why they did whatever it is they have done. Bound By Guilt is a really good book that I highly recommend.

Great job! You kept me turning the pages.

Spring Reading Thing 2011: My List

Today is the first day of Spring which means that the Spring Reading Thing has begun!! I love the Spring Reading Thing Challenge because it's a low pressure challenge. All I have to do is read during the Spring..how easy is that? :) Thanks to Katrina @ Callapidder Days for hosting this challenge.

This year I decided that my goal for the Spring Reading Thing is to read at least ten books that are collecting dust on my bookshelf or that have been chilling out in my Kindle for a while. So I picked eight books off of my Kindle and eight off my bookshelf for the challenge. So even though there will be 16 books on my list I only plan to read 10. Figure 10 is something I can accomplish. So here is my list:

Books on my Kindle:

  1. Dangerous Heart by Tracey Bateman
  2. Gone to Green by Judy Christie
  3. Rooms by James L Rubart
  4. Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn
  5. Murder Takes the Cake by Gayle Trent
  6. The Healer's Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson
  7. Blood Ransom by Lisa Harris
  8. Mozart's Sister by Nancy Moser

Books from my bookshelf:

  1. Jane & the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor by Stephanie Barron
  2. The Cat, the Professor, and the Poison by Leann Sweeney
  3. Psych: Mind Over Magic by William Rabkin
  4. The Frontiersman's Daughter by Laura Frantz
  5. The Lightkeeper's Daughter by Colleen Coble
  6. The Gunman's Bride by Catherine Palmer
  7. The Affectionate Adversary by Catherine Palmer
  8. The Bride Bargain by Kelly Eileen Hake
Of course, nothing is wrote in stone and I may end up adding or deleting a book so we shall see. So are you planning to join this lovely challenge?

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

From Goodreads

Charlotte Bronte's impassioned novel is the love story of Jane Eyre, a plain yet spirited governess, and her arrogant, brooding Mr. Rochester. Published in 1847, under the pseudonym of Currer Bell, the book heralded a new kind of heroine--one whose virtuous integrity, keen intellect and tireless perseverance broke through class barriers to win equal stature with the man she loved. Hailed by William Makepeace Thackeray as "the masterwork of great genius," Jane Eyre is still regarded, over a century later, as one of the finest novels in English literature.

My Thoughts:
Last winter I had watched the BBC version of Jane Eyre and loved it and after that I told myself I was going to read Jane Eyre. Well, it took me a year but I finally did it and I'm so glad I did. I now know why Jane Eyre is a classic. But if you ask me to put it in words I'm afraid all I can say is you have to read it for yourself. I would love to see the Jane Eyre movie that is out now but I'm not sure that will happen since it's not playing here in town. Oh well. I'm sure y'all will not be surprise when I say that I highly recommend reading this classic. :)
